Sekulović presented the activities of our organization, including the fight to protect Sinjajevina from militarization and wind farm construction. He emphasized the importance of community-based management of natural resources as a model for preserving both natural and cultural heritage. His presentation on the Sinjajevina case sparked significant interest and respect among attendees, particularly members of the ICCA Consortium, which focuses on protecting the rights of local communities and Indigenous peoples over their "territories of life."

During the event, Milan Sekulović highlighted the current threats to Sinjajevina, including plans for wind farm construction that endanger the region’s biodiversity and traditional way of life. He also stressed the importance of the pastoral way of life (katun culture) as a key element of cultural identity and sustainable rural development.

Anthropologist Pablo Dominguez, who has studied the ecological and cultural significance of Sinjajevina, supported our presentation. He underscored the necessity of involving local communities in decision-making processes and the preservation of natural resources.

We received an invitation to join the ICCA Consortium's volunteer working group tasked with establishing a European Secretariat dedicated to protecting local communities across Europe. This partnership will further strengthen our international advocacy efforts and expand activities aimed at preserving pastures and other rural areas in Montenegro.

The event featured thematic sessions on preserving rural landscapes, the contributions of local communities to sustainable development goals, and protecting natural and cultural heritage through traditional practices. During discussions, Sekulović stressed the urgent need to protect Sinjajevina and ensure public involvement in all decisions concerning its future.

The ICCA Consortium is an international network that defends the rights of local communities to manage and conserve their territories. Established in 2008, the Consortium includes members from over 70 countries and actively works on community rights recognition, biodiversity conservation, and promoting sustainable natural resource management.

Our participation in this event has strengthened our resolve to continue the fight to preserve Sinjajevina as an ecologically, culturally, and historically significant area. We thank all partners and participants who recognized the importance of our cause and invite the public to join us in safeguarding this unique natural treasure.

The Civic Initiative "Save Sinjajevina" remains committed to promoting sustainable development and protecting the rights of local communities in Montenegro.
