The Government should support the proposal of Minister Dragan Krapović and annul the decision on the military training ground in Sinjajevina.

The Civic Initiative *Save Sinjajevina* welcomes and strongly supports the initiative of the Minister of Defence, Mr. Dragan Krapović, for the Government of Montenegro to annul Conclusions 41, 42, and 43 from 2019, which initiated the process of militarization of Sinjajevina.

This proposal represents an important step towards the final and institutional closure of the issue of the military training ground on Sinjajevina, which from the very beginning met with strong opposition from the local population, the citizens of Montenegro, the wider region and Europe, as well as numerous relevant international organizations. We hereby call on Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, who has publicly promised that Sinjajevina will never become a military training ground, to now unequivocally support Minister Krapović’s initiative and demonstrate his commitment to the local livestock-raising community of Sinjajevina, as well as to all true lovers of Montenegro’s natural resources.

We also call on all members of the Government of Montenegro to unanimously support this proposal at the Thursday session, in order to demonstrate genuine dedication to the interests of citizens, nature conservation, and respect for democratic procedures.

This excellent news creates an opportunity to continue, at one of the upcoming sessions, the process of declaring Sinjajevina a protected area, in accordance with the 2016 Study by the Agency for Nature and Environmental Protection—a long-standing demand of citizens and the expert community—thus finally designating Sinjajevina as a nature park.

It is crucial to continue implementing measures to preserve Sinjajevina through protection mechanisms under European legislation, including:

· The Natura 2000 network
· The Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC)
· The Birds Directive (2009/147/EC)
· The Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC)

Sačuvajmo Sinjajevinu welcomes Montenegro’s European path and believes that the permanent protection of Sinjajevina represents one of the key steps in fulfilling environmental protection obligations.

Finally, we invite all citizens of Montenegro, environmental activists, representatives of local communities, and the media to join us at the traditional Petrovdanski gathering, which will take place on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 12:00 PM, at Savina Voda and Margita on the Sinjajevina mountain.

Come and celebrate this important victory of civic activism with us and send a clear message—
Sinjajevina is not a military training ground. Sinjajevina is life!
