The Sixth Sinjajevina Camp
Katun: Guardian of the Past, Guarantee of the Future – from July 10 at Margita and Okrugljak
The Citizens’ Initiative “Save Sinjajevina” is organizing its educational and recreational camp for the sixth consecutive year. This year’s camp, under the slogan “Katun: Guardian of the Past, Guarantee of the Future,” will take place from July 10 to July 14 on Sinjajevina Mountain.
The organizers invite all interested participants to apply no later than Monday, July 6, at 3:00 PM, noting that participation in the camp is completely free of charge. Registration is mandatory and can be completed through the following link:

Over the course of five days, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the natural values of Sinjajevina, traditional life in the mountain katuns, mountain cuisine, medicinal herbs, customs, and the rich cultural heritage of the area through workshops, lectures, hiking tours, and field activities.
The camp will begin on July 10 with participant registration and a workshop dedicated to the struggle for the protection of Sinjajevina. The workshop will present the achievements of the citizens’ initiative to date, the challenges facing this area, and plans for the future.
The programme includes workshops on traditional mountain cuisine, flower gathering and wreath-making, visits to katuns and springs in the Margita and Okrugljak areas, a lecture on the medicinal plants of Sinjajevina, and a workshop dedicated to Slavic mythology and customs. For outdoor enthusiasts, a hike to Savino Lake and an ascent to Jablanov Peak are also planned.
This year, the Citizens’ Initiative Save Sinjajevina will have the honour of hosting 15 members of the international ICCA Consortium, who will hold their General Assembly on Sinjajevina as a sign of support for efforts to preserve our mountain as a territory of life.
A special part of the programme will be organized by the Montenegro Film Centre and will feature a screening of the award-winning documentary film “The Mountain”, which tells the story of the people of Sinjajevina and their efforts to preserve the mountain, its traditions, and way of life. The screening is scheduled for July 11 at Okrugljak Katun. This year, the film received the Grand Jury Prize for Best International Documentary Feature at the Sundance Film Festival, one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals.
The central event of the camp will be the celebration of Petrovdan (St. Peter’s Day) on July 12, when a traditional gathering will bring together local residents, shepherds, hikers, and friends of Sinjajevina.
The Citizens’ Initiative “Save Sinjajevina” emphasizes that the camp offers an opportunity for socializing, exchanging experiences, and learning about the importance of preserving the largest mountain pasture in the Balkans. Year after year, it attracts an increasing number of participants from Montenegro and abroad.
Applications are open until July 6 at 3:00 PM.
