Citizens' Initiative Save Sinjajevina at EDI Convention vol. 3
Representatives of the organization "Građanska inicijativa Sačuvajmo Sinjajevinu," Milan Sekulović and Jelena Lončar, participated in the third edition of the Engaged Democracy Convention (EDI), held from May 21 to 23, 2025, in Skopje, at the Laboratorium venue. This event brought together participants from the region to exchange experiences and strengthen the capacities of civil society in the areas of democracy, human rights, and environmental protection.

During the convention, our representatives attended numerous panels and workshops. Among the key sessions was the discussion “Challenging the Status Quo: Student Protests and Democratic Changes in the Balkans,” where panelists such as Milena Stefanović (Faculty of Dramatic Arts), Tatjana Rašić (University of Novi Sad), Borjana Eftimova (Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje), and Nikola Naumoski (activist from Skopje) shared their experiences regarding social change.
Special attention was given to workshops on topics critical to our work. Sessions on dignified labor, SLAPP lawsuits, digital security, and environmental protection provided opportunities to expand knowledge and develop concrete strategies applicable to our activities. A workshop on grassroots fundraising and the sustainability of civil society organizations further strengthened our organization's capacity in the area of financial sustainability.
In addition to formal sessions, the convention was an excellent opportunity to network with representatives of organizations from the region. Our representatives exchanged contacts with numerous colleagues, paving the way for future collaborations and joint projects. Attendance at the panel “Who’s Afraid of Gender Equality in the Balkans?” enriched our understanding of gender issues in local and global contexts through insights shared by panelists such as Iva Parađanin (Tampon Zone) and Rumena Bužarovska (Radio Mileva).
Participation in the EDI Convention allowed our representatives to further develop their skills and capacities, ensuring a more substantial contribution to the community through our activities. This experience will serve as a foundation for the further growth and strengthening of the Civic Initiative Save Sinjajevina.
